<台湾>

① 6/3: AAG submarine Internet cable ruptures again
VietnamA source from the managing center of the Asia America Gateway (AAG) said the cable ruptured at around 4:30 p.m. Details of where the break occurred have remained sketchy. In the past the AAG cable, which is used by VNPT and three other Internet providers, FPT Telecom, Viettel and SPT, took place at the portion between southern Vietnam and Hong Kong. News website VnExpress quoted unidentified sources as saying that the rupture occurred at a section around 38 kilometers off the coast of Vung Tau.

② 5/25: Digital Realty Opening $150m Singapore Data Center
SingaporeDigital Realty is investing $150 million on a second, 13.2-megawatt data center in Singapore to address growing demand for data center infrastructure in the city-state and interconnection needs in Asia Pacific. Delivery of the powered shell and an initial 3.2 megawatts is expected in late 2015. The company entered into a purchase agreement for a former 175,000 square foot paper storage facility and is converting the non-technical building into a data center. Legal completion of the deal will occur sometime next month, although power and fiber works are already underway.

③ 5/5: TSMC InFO-WLP technology to generate significant revenues starting 2016
TaiwanTaiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) backend integrated fan-out (InFO) wafer-level packaging (WLP) technology will start contributing significantly to the IC foundry’s revenues in 2016, according to industry sources. TSMC’s in-house developed InFO-WLP technology is expected to attract many orders including orders from Apple in 2016, said the sources. Qualcomm, MediaTek and Huawei are all pinpointed as potential customers of TSMC’s IC backend business.

④ 6/3: Google to build second Singapore data centre
SingaporeGoogle will build a second data centre in Singapore next-door to its existing facility, with plans to have the centre operational by mid-2017. The company’s first Singaporean data centre was opened in 2013 at an estimated cost of US$120 million (A$156 million). The new data centre will bring Google’s investment in its Singaporean infrastructure to US$500 million, and investment in Asia to US$1 billion.  In a blog post today, Google vice president of data centres Joe Kava said the facility would use 100 percent recycled water for its critical operations.

⑤ 6/4: Indonesia’s Netflix-type Genflix service opts for Irdeto technology
IndonesiaAMSTERDAM-headquartered Irdeto has announced that PT Mega Media Indonesia Group, owner of satellite pay TV service Orange TV, has selected its end-to-end Multiscreen services to support the launch of Genflix. Genflix, also under PT Mega Media Indonesia Group, was established in September 2013 as Indonesia’s first-ever commercial over-the-top (OTT) content delivery service, Irdeto said in a statement.

⑥ 6/1: China set to enter 5G era by 2020: white papers
Image.gifChina expects to enter the 5G era in mobile telecom technology and industry in 2020 as the country has just issued two 5G technology white papers on May 29 during the annual 5G summit held by the China IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, reports Tencent’s tech news portal. Released by the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), the two white papers, 5G Wireless Technology Architecture and 5G Network Technology Architecture, outlined 5G key technologies as well as the process of the 5G research and development in China and tasks for standardization.

⑦ 5/29: Telin Singapore gets Cisco WebEx accreditation, first in APAC
IndonesiaTELEKOMUNIKASI Indonesia International Pte Ltd (Telin Singapore), a subsidiary of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, said it was the first in Asia Pacific to be certified a Cisco Systems Inc authorised technology provider for WebEx. With that, Telin Singapore has unveiled new business offerings to help telecommunication service providers and enterprise clients add automation to their Cisco web conference services-based clouds, it said in a statement.

⑧ 6/5: Indonesia’s smartphone revolution starts now
IndonesiaIn three to four years, consumers in Indonesia will only pay Rp 400,000 (US$30) for 4G smartphones, Indonesia’s tech minister Rudiantara announced last month. 4G technology is only now beginning to enter Indonesia on a large scale. All three major operators are currently engaged in country-wide 4G infrastructure upgrades. And while Indonesia has a mobile phone penetration of over 100 percent, as little as 23 percent of those are smartphones.

⑨ 6/1: LG U+ finishing up mega data center
Image1.gifPYEONGCHON, Gyeonggi – To the trained tech eye, it is obvious how a huge dark gray building in Pyeongchon, Gyeonggi, still under construction will be used.  The structure – the size of 12 soccer stadiums – is telecommunications company LG U+’s data center. And it will be Asia’s largest when completed in July.  The nation’s third largest telecom company will invite corporate clients to locate their servers and storage devices at Pyeongchon Mega Center.  Data centers house servers, cables and connections to the Internet with supporting equipment for supplying power, cooling and fire protection.

⑩ 5/22: Qualcomm to step out of TSMC top-5 client list in 2H15
TaiwanQualcomm may not serve as one of the top-five clients for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in the second half of 2015 as the US-based chipmaker has placed more 14nm orders with Samsung Electronics, while giving more 28nm orders to United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), according to industry sources. Qualcomm’s decision may aim to reduce its reliance on TSMC and to avoid its previous experience of not being able to gain enough 28nm foundry capacity from TSMC, the sources noted.

_AC Stamp
