ついに Alibaba は、Snapchat にまで資金を提供する ・・・

Alibaba の動きが活発です。 3月4日の Agile_Cat に、「Alibaba クラウドが、ついに米国マーケットに進出 」という抄訳をポストしましたが、それ以外にも、各方面への資金提供を積極的に行なっています。 昨年の IPO で手にした莫大なキャッシュを原資にした、アジアからアメリカへ向けての、本格的な進出が始まっています。
 
Alibaba今週末のことですが、 TechInAsia が「Alibaba invests $200M in Snapchat 」を、そして Business Insider が「Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is investing $200 M in Snapchat at $15 B valuation 」をポストしています。 そして BI の記事の方には、いま Snapchat が進めている $500 M ファンディング・ラウンドとは、別物の出資になると記されています。
 
また、Alibaba はアジアのスタートアップにも積極的に資金を提供しており、その中には「Snapdeal drums up custom in Slumdog’s Dharavi」や「Quixey CEO Tomer Kagan on the company’s close relationship with Alibaba」のように、Softbank と共同で出資するケースもあるようです。
 
今年に入ってからの、Alibaba の出資に関連するトピックを探してみたら、以下のものが見つかりました。 春節の休みなどを考えると、実質的に 2ヶ月の間の出来事です。同社の資金力もさることながら、その陣営を急いで拡大していこうとする、バイタリティに驚いでしまいます。

① 3/11: IBM Launches Second Cloud Center in Australia
AustraliaSYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, Mar 10, 2015 (Marketwired via COMTEX) — Today, IBM announced the opening of its newest SoftLayer cloud center in Sydney, Australia. As part of IBM’s $1.2 billion investment to expand its cloud services, the new facility joins Melbourne in meeting the growing customer demand for scalable cloud solutions with global reach in Australia.
 
② 3/8: Acer Octon promotes SDN-based business communication
TaiwanAcer Octon, a joint venture between Acer and US-based multimedia application developer Octon, demonstrated its new cloud-based PBX business-use communication solution at the MWC 2015. The IP solution, dubbed “abPBX Plus,” is able to offer cloud-based services plus advanced communication services such as file sharing, IP voice calls and teleconferencing to clients.
 
③ 3/1: India Govt bans Gmail for official work, to monitor staff
IndiaThe government will be monitoring online activities of bureaucrats on official computers, block content which it feels is adversely affecting the productivity of the babus and also have a right to delete e-mails or internet history on such computers after intimating the user. The measures are a part of twin notifications issued by the Narendra Modi government on February 18 by which the use of private e-mail networks like Gmail and Yahoo has now also been officially banned for all government use.
 
④ 3/9: 2015 MWC highlights Galaxy S6, IoT and 5G
KoreaKorea’s mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus are being urged to cooperate with each other to team up with other overseas carriers in order to enjoy “first-mover” advantage in the race to set up standards for 5G wireless technology. The 2014 MWC featured the benefits of 5G over today’s LTE tech, the IoT, Samsung Electronics Galaxy S6, LG’s stylish smartwatch and products for augmented reality.
 
⑤ 3/10: Gamevil tops among Korean mobile game publishers in global
KoreaGamevil said Monday it has been ranked the highest among Korean mobile game publishers in terms of mobile game sales at application stores such as Google’s Play market and Apple’s Appstore. According to the “Top 52 Publishers of 2014″ report released by a global mobile app analytics agency App Annie, Gamevil was listed in 11th place among the global mobile game publishers, up 15 steps from a year ago.
 
⑥ 3/9: Tech Mahindra opens sales office in Hanoi,Vietnam
IndiaTech Mahindra is bringing jobs and IT expertise across the region by opening its Vietnam sales office in Hanoi. Tech Mahindra is present in Vietnam since 2012 and has experienced an increase in the number of customers especially in the banking sector in the country. It has come a long way since 2012 and today it boasts a strong ecosystem in Vietnam comprising established product vendors and local partners.
 
⑦ 3/12: Weibo ends 2014 with slow but steady growth, has 176M MAU
ChinaWeibo, China’s Twitter-like social network, continues to grow – albeit slowly. Weibo ended 2014 with 175.7 million monthly active users (MAUs), which is up 36 percent year-on-year, and up 5.2 percent from Q3 to Q4. Although many have talked about WeChat making Weibo irrelevant, it seems that Weibo is standing its ground against the hugely popular messaging app (WeChat is close to 500 million MAUs) despite a number of areas of overlap between the two social networks.
 
⑧ 3/8: Xiaomi likely to launch Redmi 2 in India this month
IndiaNEW DELHI: It looks like Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is all set to launch the Redmi 2, its next-generation, entry-level smartphone in the Indian market. The company is currently running a contest on its India Facebook page which features a word puzzle. Participants who are able to find three key features from the puzzle qualify to get priority access passes to buy the company’s upcoming smartphone.
 
⑨ 3/10: 90pc traffic comes from mobile devices: Myntra
IndiaBANGALORE, INDIA: Myntra shared that 90 perecent of its traffic is being generated through mobile devices. Close to 85 percent of this traffic is driven by Android, iOS and Windows platforms. Interestingly, over 50 percent of the mobile traffic is coming from Tier II & III cities. After China, India ranks second in consumers accessing the internet for online shopping through mobile devices, according to a recent study.
 
⑩ 3/11: Malaysia draws up cyber security plans till 2050
MalaysiaMalaysia is reviewing its National Cyber Security Policy as part of broader plans to strengthen internet security in the country, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah (pictured, right) announced. The revised policy is expected to be ready in two years, said Dr Amirrudin Abdul Wahab, CEO of Cybersecurity Malaysia, which is reviewing the policy with the National Security Council (MKN).

cna_6この週の Top-10 には入りませんでしたが、Baidu が Android ベースの独自 OS を諦めたというニュースが、とても気になります。 誰もが知っているとおり、いまの中国で最も勢いのあるスマホは Xiaomi であり、その MiUi が Android フォークの先頭を突っ走っているという状況です。 アジアの王者である Samsung でさえ、独自 OSを という観点では、Tizen の展開に苦しんでいるようです。そう考えると、Xiaomi のビジネス・モデルの方が、一歩も二歩も先行しているわけであり、大きく変化してきたアジア・スマホ勢力図を、この Baidu の撤退劇が裏付けているように思えてきます。_AC Stamp
