Oh man, not again. In July, Apple lost yet another iPhone prototype in a San Francisco bar… this time, a testing prototype of the iPhone 5.

やれやれ、またですか。この 7月に Apple は、San Francisco のバーで、またも iPhone のプロトタイプをなくしたと、しかも今回は、iPhone 5 のテスト用プロトタイプだったと。

In an event that mirrored closely the time last year when an Apple employee lost an early iPhone 4 prototype at a popular San Francisco bar, which was then sold to Gizmodo, the latest lost iPhone 5 was dropped at a tequila lounge called Cava 22 in San Francisco’s Mission District.

今回の事件も、昨年の騒動に似ている。つまり、Apple 従業員が、San Francisco の人気のバーで iPhone 4 のプロトタイプをなくしてしまい、それが Gizmodo に売られたという、あの事件に似ているのだ。そして今年は、San Francisco の Mission District にある Cava 22 で、iPhone 5 のプロトタイプが、テキーラの海に呑み込まれてまったというわけだ。

CNET reports:

A day or two after the phone was lost at San Francisco’s Cava 22, which describes itself as a “tequila lounge” that also serves lime-marinated shrimp ceviche, Apple representatives contacted San Francisco police, saying the device was priceless and the company was desperate to secure its safe return, the source said. Still unclear are details about the device, what version of the iOS operating system it was running, and what it looks like.

その iPhone 5 が、ライム･マリネ･シュリンプが売り物の、San Francisco テキーラ･ラウンジ Cava 22 で消えてしまった数日後に、Apple の担当者が San Francisco 警察に連絡したらしい。そのデバイスは、この上なく重要であり、同社としては、安全な生還を必死で望んでいるという、Apple の談話を情報筋は提供している。しかし、そのデバイスでは、どの iOS が走り、どんなルック＆フィールが実現されていたのか、、、そのあたりの詳細は依然として不明確である。

Apple electronically traced the phone to a two-floor, single-family home in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, according to the source.

また、その情報筋によると、San Francisco の Bernal Heights 近辺の二階建て住宅を、Apple は電子的にトレースしたらしい。

When San Francisco police and Apple’s investigators visited the house, they spoke with a man in his twenties who acknowledged being at Cava 22 on the night the device went missing. But he denied knowing anything about the phone. The man gave police permission to search the house, and they found nothing, the source said.

そして、San Francisco 警察と Apple の調査員が、その家を訪問したとき、そこに住む 20代の男は、デバイスが消えてしまった夜に、Cava 22にいたことを認めたという。しかし、彼は、その iPhone については何も知らないと否定した。そして男は、警察に家宅捜索の許可を与えたが、何も出てこなかったと、情報提供者は言っている。

It’s unknown if Apple ever got the iPhone back, but jeez. How does this happen twice in a row? Maybe Apple better send out an email to its boozier employees: if you’re going to go out drinking, leave your priceless iPhone test prototype at home.
