We teamed up with SurveyMonkey to find out how people use their tablets versus how they use laptops/desktop computers. As the iPad becomes more and more popular, we want to know what people feel like they can’t do with it compared to a traditional computer.

私たちは、どのようなときに人々はタブレットを使用し、また、ラップトップ／デスクトップ･コンピュータを使うのかを見極めるために、SurveyMonkey とチームを組んで調査した。以前にも増して iPad の人気が高まる状況にあるが、従来からのコンピュータと比較して、タブレットでは無理だと、人々が感じる領域を知りたいと思ったのだ。

According to our survey, tablets like the iPad are most useful for surfing the web, reading news, social networking, and playing games. It’s about tied with traditional computers for email. What is a traditional computer better at? Banking, shopping, creating documents, and doing work related activities.

今回の調査によると、iPad などのタブレットは、Web サーフィンや、ニュースの参照、ソーシャル･ネットワーク、ゲームなどにおいて、最も有用だという結果になった。そして、電子メールに関しては、タブレットと従来からのコンピュータが並んでいる状況となった。その一方で、従来からのコンピュータは、どのような用途において有用なのだろうか？その答えは、バンキングおよび、ショッピング、ドキュメント作成、仕事に関連するアクティビティとなる。

タイトルは iPad となっていますが、チャートを見ると Tablet 対 PC という比較になっていることが分かります。それほどまでに iPad という言葉が、タブレットというカテゴリを代表する存在に、なっていることの証明なのでしょう。たしかに、その方が、タイトルとしてはキャッチーですし、分かりやすいですものね。そして、このチャートの内容ですが、「なるほど」と思える、とても納得しやすい結果になっています。両者の利用頻度か拮抗しているメールの、今後の動きが気になりますね。
