Do we really need a smaller tablet computer? Well, Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet shows an early success with sold out first day, and it indicate that there’s a demand for smaller tablets. If all the rumors about the iPad Mini is accurate, then it looks like Apple wants to protect its precious tablet PC market share which currently holds more than 60 per cent of the total amount worldwide.

Latest rumors online claim that the iPad Mini, the rumored smaller iPad tablet computer of Cupertino, California-based computer giant Apple, will sit inside the $250 to $300 price point or $50 to $100 more expensive than Google’s tablet PC line and will ship with a 7 to 8-inch display, an inch or two smaller than the original iPad models that sport 9.7-inch display.

オンライン上での最近のウワサによると、Cupertino, California ベースの巨人 Apple が、小型の iPad タブレットを $250～$300 で提供するようだ。その価格帯は、Google のタブレットを比べて、$50～$100 ほど高額であり、オリジナルの 9.7 inch ディスプレイよりも小型の、7 inch～8 inch のサイズになると思われる。

According to The Street quoting Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Münster, the iPad Mini with smaller display and cheaper price tag will allow Apple to “eliminate” all the advantages of tablets running Android. ”We remain confident that Apple will maintain and potentially increase its tablet market share over the next four years,” he also added in the note.

But what if customers want the new Google tablet because it is not an iPad? Or for beginners, what if a large chunk of Nexus 7 customers want the new Nexus 7 tablet because it runs Android? Also, Apple is already selling a cheaper tablet, the iPad 2, so if a customer really wants a cheaper iPad, he can already purchase one. The cheapest iPad 2 is priced $399.

しかし、iPad ではなく Google タブレットを、顧客が欲しがるなら、どうしたらよいのだろう？また、初心者について言えば、大量の Nexus 7 ユーザーが、そこで Android が走っているからという理由で、次世代の Nexus 7 を選んでしまうかもしれない。同様に Apple も、より安価なタブレットとして iPad 2を売っている。もし、しユーザーが安価な iPad を必要とするなら、そちらの方を購入すれば良い。現時点で、最も安価な iPad 2 は、＄399 という価格が設定されている。

It is worth noting, and reviews agree, that the Nexus 7 is the first and the only Android tablet computer that delivers “an experience that’s comparable” with the iPad and its buttery smooth user interface. The device is the first, and the cheapest, high-end tablet computer which includes the latest version of Android with the Google Now platform. For comparison, assuming that all leaks about the iPad Mini are accurate, the Nexus 7 is better overall courtesy of its quad-core Tegra 3 chipset, Android Jelly Bean, and of course, the $199.99 and $249.99 price tag. The only advantage of the iPad Mini will be the iTunes Store which offers more tablet computer applications and the wider selection of music, movies and TV shows.

The iPad Mini is headed to the market with the iPhone 5 before the end of this year (reportedly in September or October), analysts say citing their channel checks, but if Google can sell millions of Nexus 7 tablets before its debut, then it is safe to assume that app developers will flock to the new platform to take advantage of the new Android customers.

iPad Mini と iPhone5 は、今年の終わりまでに登場すると（伝えられるところによると 9月もしくは 10月）、それぞれのアナリストたちは、自身の情報網を引き合いに出しながら発言している。しかし、それらのデビューに先行して、Google が何百万台もの Nexus 7 タブレットを販売するなら、このプラットフォームにデベロッパーたちは集まり、新しい Android ユーザーに対してアドバンテージを提供すると、推測することが可能となる。
