The market for business analytics software grew 14 percent in 2011 and will hit $50.7 billion in revenue by 2016, according to market research firm IDC. And, that segment will grow at a 9.8-percent-a-year clip until then, IDC predicts, driven in part by the current hype around big data.

マーケット･リサーチ会社である IDC によると、ビジネス分析ソフトウェアのマーケットは2011年に 14% の上昇を見せ、また、2016 年までには $50.7 Billion に達するという。そして、このセグメントは、2016年まで年率で 9.8% を上積みし、また、注目のキーワードである Big Data の周辺で伸びていくと IDC は予測している。

The renewed importance of analytics software comes as the idea of big data has opened companies’ eyes as to the types of insights their data can provide far beyond what traditional analytics efforts yielded. Platform technologies such as Hadoop are letting companies store more data than ever before possible and crunch types of data not traditionally used.

Big Data が企業の視野を広げるという発想が広まるにつれて、分析ソフトウェアの重要性が見直されている。それは、伝統的な解析手法がもたらすものを、はるかに超えた洞察を提供するものとなる。 Hadoop のようなプラットフォーム･テクノロジーが、考えられないほどのデータ量に対応し、これまでは活用できなかった情報を解析していく。

Analytics software is a key component of big data strategies because it’s the stuff that lets companies actually analyze and visualize their data. Vendors in this space are having to retool their products — many products have been around for years, if not decades – for the age of big data. By IDC’s estimates, data warehousing was the fastest growing analytics area in 2011, increasing 15.2 percent, followed by analytics applications at 13.3. percent and BI tools at 13.2 percent.

分析ソフトウェアが Big Data 戦略の主要コンポーネントになるのは、企業におけるデータの解析／視覚化が、それにより実現されるからである。この領域におけるベンダーたちは、10年とは言わずとも、数年前からのプロダクトを抱え込んでおり、この Big Data の時代に合わせて、それらの再編の迫られている。 IDC の推定によると、2011年のデータ･ウエアハウジングは、15.2% の成長を遂げている。そして、それに続くのが、分析アプリケーションの 13.3% と、BI ツールの 13.2% である。

By contrast, IDC recently predicted that the almost brand new market for Hadoop software and services will grow at about 60 percent a year until 2016, reaching $812.8 million up from $77 million today. It predicted the market for big data overall (which doesn’t include the higher-level analytics software) will reach $16.9 billion by 2015, up from $3.2 billion in 2010.

それとは対照的に、先日の IDC の調査によると、Hadoop のソフトウェアとサービスにおける、立ち上がったばかりのマーケットは、今日の $77 million から 2016年の $812.8 million へと、年率で 60% の成長が予測されている。また、Big Data 全体のマーケット（ハイレベルな解析ソフトウェアは含まない）は、2010年の $3.2 billion から、2015年には $16.9 billion にいたると予測されている。

Do we really need a smaller tablet computer? Well, Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet shows an early success with sold out first day, and it indicate that there’s a demand for smaller tablets. If all the rumors about the iPad Mini is accurate, then it looks like Apple wants to protect its precious tablet PC market share which currently holds more than 60 per cent of the total amount worldwide.

Latest rumors online claim that the iPad Mini, the rumored smaller iPad tablet computer of Cupertino, California-based computer giant Apple, will sit inside the $250 to $300 price point or $50 to $100 more expensive than Google’s tablet PC line and will ship with a 7 to 8-inch display, an inch or two smaller than the original iPad models that sport 9.7-inch display.

オンライン上での最近のウワサによると、Cupertino, California ベースの巨人 Apple が、小型の iPad タブレットを $250～$300 で提供するようだ。その価格帯は、Google のタブレットを比べて、$50～$100 ほど高額であり、オリジナルの 9.7 inch ディスプレイよりも小型の、7 inch～8 inch のサイズになると思われる。

According to The Street quoting Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Münster, the iPad Mini with smaller display and cheaper price tag will allow Apple to “eliminate” all the advantages of tablets running Android. ”We remain confident that Apple will maintain and potentially increase its tablet market share over the next four years,” he also added in the note.

The Street によると（Piper Jaffray のアナリストである Gene Munster の言葉を引用）、より小型のディスプレイと、より廉価版の価格帯を狙う iPad Mini は、Android を走らせるタブレットにおける、すべてのアドバンテージを消し去るようだ。「これからの 4年間にわたって、Apple は現在のシェアを維持するどころか、増大させる可能性すら持つと、私たちは確信している」と、彼は指摘している。

But what if customers want the new Google tablet because it is not an iPad? Or for beginners, what if a large chunk of Nexus 7 customers want the new Nexus 7 tablet because it runs Android? Also, Apple is already selling a cheaper tablet, the iPad 2, so if a customer really wants a cheaper iPad, he can already purchase one. The cheapest iPad 2 is priced $399.

しかし、iPad ではなく Google タブレットを、顧客が欲しがるなら、どうしたらよいのだろう？また、初心者について言えば、大量の Nexus 7 ユーザーが、そこで Android が走っているからという理由で、次世代の Nexus 7 を選んでしまうかもしれない。同様に Apple も、より安価なタブレットとして iPad 2を売っている。もし、しユーザーが安価な iPad を必要とするなら、そちらの方を購入すれば良い。現時点で、最も安価な iPad 2 は、＄399 という価格が設定されている。

It is worth noting, and reviews agree, that the Nexus 7 is the first and the only Android tablet computer that delivers “an experience that’s comparable” with the iPad and its buttery smooth user interface. The device is the first, and the cheapest, high-end tablet computer which includes the latest version of Android with the Google Now platform. For comparison, assuming that all leaks about the iPad Mini are accurate, the Nexus 7 is better overall courtesy of its quad-core Tegra 3 chipset, Android Jelly Bean, and of course, the $199.99 and $249.99 price tag. The only advantage of the iPad Mini will be the iTunes Store which offers more tablet computer applications and the wider selection of music, movies and TV shows.

iPad Mini に関するすべてのリークが正確だと想定して、この両者を比較してみると、Nexus 7 の Quad-Core Tegra 3 チップ･セットと、Android Jelly Bean。そして、もちろん $199.99～$249.99 という価格設定のほうが、全体的に優っているようだ。 iPad Mini における唯一のアドバンテージは、多様なタブレット･アプリケーションや、音楽／映画／テレビ･ショーなどを提供する、iTunes Store における広範な選択肢となるだろう。

The iPad Mini is headed to the market with the iPhone 5 before the end of this year (reportedly in September or October), analysts say citing their channel checks, but if Google can sell millions of Nexus 7 tablets before its debut, then it is safe to assume that app developers will flock to the new platform to take advantage of the new Android customers.

iPad Mini と iPhone5 は、今年の終わりまでに登場すると（伝えられるところによると 9月もしくは 10月）、それぞれのアナリストたちは、自身の情報網を引き合いに出しながら発言している。しかし、それらのデビューに先行して、Google が何百万台もの Nexus 7 タブレットを販売するなら、このプラットフォームにデベロッパーたちは集まり、新しい Android ユーザーに対してアドバンテージを提供すると、推測することが可能となる。

今年に入ってからというもの、Samsung が Galaxy Tab2 を出荷し、Amazon からは Kindle Fire2 が出るというウワサが流れ、Google I/O では Nexus 7 が発表されという、まさに激戦区の７inch タブレット市場ですね。そこに、今度は iPad Mini が参戦し、さらに戦いが激化していくようです。まぁ、ユーザーにとっては、きわめてコスト･パフォーマンスの良い製品が入手しやすくなるわけで、大歓迎というところですね。それと、上記のビデオにあるように、音声によるオペレーションが、これからのタブレットには不可欠になるような気がします。ほんと、注目のテクノロジーです。ーーー
