How big is Amazon’s cloud? It’s huge, and getting huger. Amazon Web Services said this week that its S3 cloud storage service housed 262 billion objects at year-end of 2010, more than doubling in size from 102 billion objects at the close of 2009. The peak request rate for S3 is now in excess of 200,000 requests per second, according to Amazon’s Jeff Barr.

Amazon クラウドは、どれぐらいの規模なのだろうか？それは巨大であり、さらに巨大化している。今週の、Amazon Web Services の発表によると、S3 クラウド･ストレージ･サービスは、2010年の末時点におおいて 2620 億のオブジェクトを収容し、2009 年の 1020 億オブジェクトと比較して、2倍以上の規模に膨らんでいる。 Amazon の Jeff Barr によると、S3 におけるピーク･リクエスト･レートは、200,000 リクエスト／秒を超えるという。

While these data points provide snapshots of activity on particular AWS services, there’s little doubt that Amazon’s cloud computing operation is seeing incredible growth.

これらのデータが、特定の AWS サービスにおけるアクティビティのスナップショットを提供するのと並行して、Amazon のクラウド･コンピューティング運用が、信じ難い成長を見せつけている。それについて、疑問を呈する者は居ないだろう。

それにしても、すごい規模です！ちなみに、Amazon は本業も絶好調のようで、1月29日（土）の報道よると、『 2010年10月-12月期に、初めて100億ドルを超える売上を記録し、2010年を通して 342億ドルという売上額に至った。これは、前年度に対して 40% の売上増であり、Kindle などの売上が増収を支えた』だそうです。あっちも、こっちも、景気のよい話で羨ましいですね。ーーー
