Dear Amazon Web Services Customer,
We are excited to announce that IBM and Amazon Web Services have teamed up to provide you with the ability to build and run a range of IBM applications using the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) service. This relationship will enable you to bring your own IBM licenses to Amazon EC2, utilize IBM’s “Development” AMIs, or leverage the “Production” Amazon EC2 running IBM service. The initial list of IBM environments that will be available includes: IBM DB2, IBM Informix, WebSphere sMash, IBM Lotus Web Content Management, and IBM WebSphere Portal Server.
Starting today, IBM is providing several “Development” AMIs at no additional fee beyond Amazon EC2 charges for developers building commercial IBM-based applications. Coming soon, AWS will also roll out pay-as-you-go pricing for the “Production” Amazon EC2 running IBM service, enabling you to purchase these services by the hour. These AMIs will enable you to utilize Amazon EC2 with many of the IBM platform technologies you’re already familiar with in the cost-effective, high-performance, reliable, and secure Amazon EC2 environment.
For customers that already have existing IBM licenses, you are now eligible to bring them to Amazon EC2 starting today. IBM has created a Processor Value Unit (PVU) conversion table that makes it easy to determine how your existing licenses apply to the various EC2 instance types. If you are interested in bringing your own license or using the IBM Development AMIs, please visit http://aws.amazon.com/solutions/featured-partners/ibm for more details.
Our goal is to support any and all of the programming models, operating systems and database servers that you need for building applications on our cloud computing platform. The ability to run an IBM environment within Amazon EC2 has been a commonly requested feature, and we are excited to be able to provide this capability. Please go to http://aws.amazon.com/solutions/featured-partners/ibm for additional details.
